The fruit is sourced from estate grown low yielding Shiraz (1654 clone) vines from Block1A that were planted in 1995.The majority of the fruit harvested has been sold to Penfolds over the last decade and has attained selection into Penfolds Grange seven times.A very small volume is retained for the production of the Syna Shiraz. The grapes are handpicked and destemmed into a single open topped fermenter where twice daily pump overs were carried out to ensure maximum extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. At the completion of fermentation, the ferment was pressed to 30% new French oak 225L barriques for 18 months. After rigorous barrel selection the wine was blended and bottled. The wine is neither fined, nor filtered.

Colour: Bright, vibrant dark core with clear rim.Aroma: Restrained aromas of dark forest fruits, black olive, graphite with sundry spices of star anise and nutmeg are coaxed out with exposure to oxygen.Palate: Elegant, focused palate with fine acid line draws raspberry, black cherry, star anise and rhubarb fruit flavours through from front to back. Secondary characters of cedar-oak spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove add complexity. The 2017 SYNA Shiraz, requires a good decant to release the full potential of this wine.Drink now with a chargrilled chimichurri steak or cellar for a further 5-10 years to see the full potential.

Hand Picked from a single estate vineyard in Marananga, planted in 1995. Matured 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques; unfined and unfiltered. The concentrated black-fruit density and impact that defines Marananga finds a tangy drive in the cool 2017 season. Firm French oak sits before the fruit in both nutty flavour and firm tannin grip. It holds the persistence and structural integrity to hold out until fruit and oak ultimately unite.
Shiraz, or Syrah, is one of the most loved, rich and powerful red wine varieties made famous for its mineral and structured expressions from the Rhône in France and the rich and decadent fruity expressions from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Full bodied, rich in antioxidants and generously fruity, Shiraz sits proudly on the table for those that like their wine big and bold. Think violets, blackberries, plum, chocolate, pepper, black olive, liquorice, rosemary, tobacco and spice...i'm thirsty already!
