The Altera Terra Fidelis 21 is a blend of Murrumbateman, McLaren Vale and Avoca Shiraz. It is dark, brooding, rich and complex with significant presence. This is in, my opinion, a wine that has a great deal of similarity in style and impact as the 2018 Dardel Shiraz. Fidelis means faith, a name my wife chose, because she knew in her heart, that we had some incredible parcels enabling us to make a very complex and special wine

About the wine

Tasting notes

A Burgundy drinker’s shiraz that simply drips with fruit and flavour. Its heady, musky perfume of smoke and spice reveals a deep, expansive core of red, black and blue fruit that continues with vivacious intensity down a smooth, polished palate supported by assertive but measured oak. Underpinned by suggestions of mineral and charcuterie meats, it’s as gentle as it is effortless, finishing smoky and savoury. Proof positive that Australian shiraz doesn’t need half-ripened stalks to look meaningful and contemporary. (Jeremy Oliver)

Expert review

Impenetrable purple with a red core and a complex nose of concentrated cherry, beetroot, ripe plum, black pepper, dark chocolate and mixed charcuterie. In the mouth it’s decadent, precise and powerful with intense flavours that echo the nose, surrounding a mineral core. There’s a deepness, a richness and freshness to the fruit that is quite simply stunning, textured with firm fleshy tannins and balanced masterfully by a neon glow of acidity. Everything is in harmony and it fades evenly over an achingly long tail. You can’t help but be in awe of its design and beauty. An absolute triumph!

Wine Worth Writing About

The Grape

Shiraz or Syrah

Shiraz, or Syrah, is one of the most loved, rich and powerful red wine varieties made famous for its mineral and structured expressions from the Rhône in France and the rich and decadent fruity expressions from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Full bodied, rich in antioxidants and generously fruity, Shiraz sits proudly on the table for those that like their wine big and bold. Think violets, blackberries, plum, chocolate, pepper, black olive, liquorice, rosemary, tobacco and spice...i'm thirsty already!
