About the wine

Tasting notes

We’re in mini-Châteauneuf territory. There are hints of spiced plum jam plus a little game flavour from the Mourvèdre. The palate is rich, succulent, and packed with flavours of black fruit and wild berries laced with black olive and liquorice. A wine of the south! A weave of tannin brings a fine structure to balance the generosity. This is for those who like their Rhône with real horsepower. Decanting will only add to the pleasure.

Expert review

Medium purple and ruby with a jolly, lifted and fruity nose of sweet ripe berries, plum jam, heady spice, savoury herbals and hints of venison. In the mouth it's punchy and drives with sweet pastille fruit, fresh plum, blackcurrant, licorice, black olive, bittersweet spice and zesty acidity that brings a lot of freshness. Fine tannins give texture and a touch of dryness. It's a wine that doesn't take itself too seriously, but with airtime this grows with complexity and elegance.

Wine Worth Writing About

The Grape

GSM

GSM is an abbreviation for a red blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre/Mataro grapes. With its origins in the Côtes du Rhône in France, this trio of grapes is a favourite in the Barossa Valley and makes juicy, deep and fruit forward expressions that age beautifully! A great match with BBQ.
