Tapanappa is the 21st century chapter of an adventure that pioneered the modern era of the Adelaide Hills wine region.Tapanappa is the name that Brian Croser has given to his ongoing family-owned, fine-wine enterprise based in the Piccadilly Valley where it began more than 40 years ago as Petaluma.After a storied history as the first and one of the finest of the Adelaide Hills wine producers, Petaluma was taken over dramatically by corporate giant Lion Nathan in 2001, although the Crosers retained ownership of their family home and their beloved Tiers Chardonnay vineyard at the foundation winery site.

Twenty years after releasing her first wave of classic red wines with husband Mark from the Limestone Coast’s famed Padthaway region, a new chapter in the Vintage Longbottom story has begun with the arrival of daughter Margo into the company.Their family story continues and now includes the next generation.Margo brings with her a family-instilled passion for wine as well as a vibrant new outlook stemming from her studies in fashion, digital marketing and business.Surrounded by wines and vines all her life, she freely admits she loves the lifestyle that comes with the business as well as the hard work, from getting her hands dirty during vintage to the essential sharing of the admin load and vital new community connections via social media.The wine operation established by Kim and Mark Longbottom, Henry’s Drive Vignerons, paid direct homage to the history of their property where a horse-drawn mail and passenger coach service, run by Henry John Hill, operated in the 19th century.Like the coach drivers of that era, who earned the much-admired respect of locals for their enduring energy and devotion to duty, Kim and Mark became leading family wine producers connected deeply to the Padthaway region in south-east South Australia, now part of the larger zone known as the Limestone Coast.The Longbottoms set up a range of highly regarded wine brands marking the property’s history: Henry’s Drive, The Postmistress, The Scarlet Letter and Morse Code. After Mark’s death in 2008, Kim continued the business with the same commitment and devotion, and with Margo now on board the time came to continue the family story with a fresh start as mother and daughter in new surroundings.

Coulter Wines

Coulter Wines are minimal intervention, small batch wines that focus on cleanliness and purity.Working as a winemaker for a large company for a number of years I always had a nagging desire to produce my own wine. After a chance meeting with a mate, who despite having limited access to resources was punching out fantastic small batch vino. This was the inspiration for Coulter Wines. Coulter Wines are wines made in a minimalist intervention/under processed while focusing on cleanliness and purity in the wines. I take it extremely seriously, while at the same time, really enjoying the journey and proud of the wines thus far. I source fruit from premium growers in the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and Riverland. Fruit is handpicked and crushed same day. The Chardonnay is produced in the classic style. With the reds I maintain emphasis on whole bunch were suitable to add interest. All the reds are basket pressed post ferment and all wines are gravity fed. Limited time in barrel allows all the wines to retain their bright and vibrant fruitfulness. Wines are released within 6 months of production.C4 is an experimental label that will allow a change in variety & region, vintage to vintage and I'm excited about the external interest and personal freedom this label will create.I currently live in the Barossa Valley with my wife and 2 children and consider myself very lucky to be able to combine my career and passion in winemaking. I love everything about wine, making it, sharing it and especially the raw passion it evokes.The best is yet to come.Chris
