A brilliant vintage for nebbiolo, with an even growing season and extended autumn. Heading into 2017, the summer was without the extreme heat that can sometimes occur in Heathcote and for which Nebbiolo is at times be the most susceptible of our Italian varieties.

With its distinctive lightly coloured, orange hue, a vibrant nose proves generous in both sweet and savoury aromas, with tar and orange amaro bitterness joined seamlessly by notes of bright, sweet cherries, redcurrants and a hint of dried oregano. On the palate, the red fruits are slightly more tart than on the nose, with redcurrants and cherries carrying freshness through to notes of tar and a pleasingly bitter finish where hints of the digestivo ferro chino meld seamlessly with soft yet persistent tannins. Thanks to extended barrel and bottle ageing, the 2017 Nebbiolo can be enjoyed now or cellared for up to 15 years.

Often referred to as the king of red grapes, Nebbiolo is responsible for some of the greatest wines in the world. The regions of Barbaresco and Barolo, in Piedmont, Italy, create the most revered expressions of the variety and have set the benchmarks for the world over. Nebbiolo is quite light in colour, dry and delicate but packs a punch in aroma and flavour with notes of rose, tar, cherry, red berries, blood orange, licorice, leather, terracotta and earthy herbals. These wines have high acidity and high tannins, making them extremely age worthy that deepen in complexity over decades. Simply stunning wines!
