André is named after Dominique Portet’s father, a former vineyard and winery manager at Château Lafite-Rothschild in France. The wine is made only in exceptional vintages and honours the faith and learning on which our 10-generation winemaking heritage is built.2014 marks the fourth release of the wine. It comprises 60% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yarra Valley and 40% from the Pyrenees. The fruit comes from 20-year-old vines and 50 year old vines respectively on soils with more clay and broken rock. It adds mid-palate flesh and cool fruit freshness.2014 marks the fourth release of the wine. It comprises 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yarra Valley. The fruit comes from 20-year-old vines on soils with more clay and broken rock. It adds mid-palate flesh and cool fruit freshness.Excellent vintage conditions and carefully tended old vines in two special sites are key to this wine. Winemaking, then is straightforward. However, our newly installed sorting line helped us achieve greater focus and concentration in 2014 by entirely eliminating green stalks and grapes that were unripe or overripe. We picked the fruit by hand, destemmed and gently crushed it. The wine spent four weeks on skins to develop softness and complexity. It was then aged for 18 months in tight-grained French oak.

The Grape

Cabernet Sauvignon

A red grape variety that is responsible for the most expensive wines on the planet...some fetching over $100, 000 per bottle!!! It is also the worlds most popular style of wine and produces age worthy and concentrated expressions that show notes of potpourri, cassis, black cherry, blackberry, mulberry, raspberry, leafy herbals, green pepper, baking spices, charcoal, graphite and cedar. Most famous for the first growth wines from the Left Bank in Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon is often used as a primary variety for red blends designed to last decades and is a must have style for any serious collector.
