Paulmara Estates was established by Paul and Mara Georgiadis in 1999, with the first vines planted by Paul in 1995. All of our fruit is grown in this Georgiadis Estates vineyard.Our first wine, 'Syna' was inspired by our Greek and Californian heritage and shared passion for fine wine. 'Syna' is Greek for 'together' and captures our union of two like minds and hearts.Family is at the centre of everything we do, and the stories behind each of our wines are inspired by our life and those we love.

While there are others who view modern technology, science and analytics as crucial to making their wines. Purple Hands Wines

When two good mates get together, one the Chief Winemaker with a major winery, the other with a passion for wine – the inevitable had to happen and Purple Hands Wines was created.Craig Stansborough and Mark Slade started Purple Hands in 2006 from humble beginnings. Just over a tonne of hand picked Shiraz was crushed and barrel fermented in Craig’s shed making around 100 dozen. Then came the hard part – finding a name for their new wine brand.Our home vineyard – Stansborough is situated in the Southern Barossa just north west of Williamstown. Literally, a stones throw from the Whispering Wall reservoir.The 32 acre vineyard is planted on perfect Shiraz dirt, friable red clay over limestone. The vineyard plantings include Shiraz, Montepulciano and Aglianico. The southern end of the valley is recognized as the “cooler” end of the valley, with slightly lower temperatures and longer ripening periods to develop flavours.Our mission is to produce fruit driven wines with elegance and texture that reflect the vineyards from which they are sourced.The aim is to make balanced wines so they can be consumed as young wines, but will also become interesting and enjoyable older wines.

Schwarz Wine Company

A FAMILY AFFAIRThe Schwarz family has a long history in the Barossa and we are now into our 5th generation in the region. Like many families within the region, we haven’t always been involved in the wine industry. My Father was born at a historic property on the Gomersal Plains just outside of Tanunda. Although there was a small vineyard on the property it was a working sheep station and that was the main source of income. He attended Seppeltsfield School and for some time lived in a small workers’ cottages in Seppeltsfield. At the age of 14 he started working in the vineyard for his uncle, Albert Nicolai, eventually purchasing the land and beginning to add more parcels of vineyards over the years.My Father won the state pruning championships held in the Clare Valley in the mid-1980s and my parents now live in Bethany opposite our Home Block Grenache vineyard and in close proximity to our vineyards on Thiele and Nitschke Block.I convinced my Father to part with a small parcel of Nitschke Block Shiraz in the 2001 vintage and followed with the Thiele Road Grenache from 2002 and the Schwarz Wine Co was off and running.Today, our “family” has grown and although the fruit from my parent’s vineyards provides the backbone of my wines, I have built relationships with some of the Barossa’s finest grape-growers, and their hard work, passion, and dedication to their craft makes my job much easier in the winery.THE WINE MAKERI came to winemaking via a circuitous path. While I grew up surrounded by vines at my parent’s property in Bethany, I initially studied wine marketing at the University of Adelaide.On completion of my studies I headed overseas visiting Bordeaux, Burgundy, and The Napa, working in Stellenbosch and Zell, Germany. It was during my travels that I realised that my calling was winemaking rather than marketing and on my return to the Barossa in 1998 I began working in local wineries.THE VINEYARDThe vineyards I source my fruit from are the lifeblood of my wines. From my parent’s vines in Bethany to the relationships I have built over the years with some of the best growers in the Barossa Valley, I am lucky to have access to some of the regions finest fruit with old vines stretching back to 130 years of age.

Hemera Estate

When the sun rises on the Southern Barossa, the Hemera Estate vineyard is one of the first places to feel its warmth. It is for this reason the name Hemera, the goddess of day light, was chosen for our name.Hemera Estate is a Barossa Valley winery based in Lyndoch, South Australia. Our 45-hectare vineyard has been planted for more than 100 years with the original 1912 Grenache block still in operation today. We have added to this over the years and now grow a range of varieties including Tempranillo, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Mataro.Our unique location means we benefit from increased natural light combined with the slightly cooler, wetter conditions of the Southern Barossa. This means our fruit is picked earlier than others in the Valley giving our wines a natural freshness and elegance. Our undulating vineyards also provide a wealth of soil profiles from deep clay loam to broken ironstone over limestone providing an array of wine styles to blend.Our winemaking philosophy is to deliver wines that are true expressions of this land that they come from, offering complexity, finesse and refreshment. In order to achieve this we employ traditional winemaking techniques such as open top fermenters, gentle pressing, judicious fine oak and meticulous attention to detail. Our aim is to let our vineyards speak through the glass rather than ourselves.

Pirathon

Pirathon produces a range of full bodied Shiraz (Syrah) encompassing the great flavour, texture and structure of the north-western Barossa. Pirathon is highly awarded wine brand with many medals and trophies won at wine competitions around the world.Our wines are produced at our state of the art winery located in the picturesque Barossa Valley which is capable of processing 480 tonnes of grapes per year. With our own facilities we can control everything from the vineyard all the way through the winemaking process to produce the best possible wine. We use screw cap closures to improve the consistency of our bottled wine.

Chris Ringland

I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and in 1974 as a teenager, decided to have a go at home winemaking after finding an old recipe book. It’s a fascinating process and soon had schoolmates giving me a hand to harvest neighbourhood backyard vines. I was very interested in learning more about the science and history of winemaking and discovered that I could study for an Oenology science degree in Australia. In 1977 I applied to the University of Adelaide and was admitted for the degree in oenology program at Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1979.After graduating in 1982, I returned to New Zealand and worked as a winemaker for several vintages before I decided to travel and gain experience with winemaking in California.I then found myself back in the Barossa Valley working vintage in 1986 and in 1987. During this time Robert O’Callaghan contacted me to offer some work helping with his new venture, Rockford Wines. I worked for Robert over 18 vintages and during this time had the fortuitous opportunity to purchase my own vineyard. I had already established my own little after-hours winemaking project, Three Rivers Shiraz in 1989, utilising parcels of fruit purchased from various growers and in 1995 was able to continue with Shiraz harvested from the 100 year old vines on my Stone Chimney Creek property, high in the Barossa Ranges of Eden Valley. I changed the name from Three Rivers to Chris Ringland Shiraz with the release of the 1998 vintage. Following a string of exceptional reviews, in particular by Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate, my little label developed an international following that continues to the present. On the back of this, I was invited to investigate winemaking collaborations in California, Italy and Spain. Two of my Spanish projects, Bodegas Alto Moncayo and Bodegas El Nido, both established in 2002, have been very successful and continue with my input.My Barossa Valley winemaking projects expanded in 2006 with the establishment of Hoffmann Vineyard, in partnership with 5th generation vigneron Adrian Hoffmann and Ringland Vintners logistics manager Nathan Burley. While we are red wine specialists it isn’t always about Shiraz. Grenache, Mataro, Cabernet and Nebbiolo also play a part in our evolving journey through wine.

Whistler Wines

Whistler was founded by Sally & Martin Pfeiffer. Before starting Whistler, Martin oversaw the viticulture program for the iconic Penfolds brand and was fortunate enough to obtain cuttings from the famous Penfolds ‘Grange’ vineyards, which were the 1st plantings on the estate in 1994.Now, son Sam Pfeiffer continues to run the family business.
