The 2017 vintage was one of the milder vintages in WA. The latest Moss Wood captures this vintage perfectly and is without doubt one of the more restrained and tightly framed Moss Woods of recent years.

About the wine

Tasting notes

Supremely elegant cabernet sauvignon with red and blue fruits, floral, violet, shoe box, cedar, nutmeg and nutty oak flavours. No single flavour dominates creating a delicious medley of appealing characters. Power delivered with subtlety. While it can be appreciated now I'd love to taste it in another decade.

Expert review

An amazingly fine and elegant release from Moss Wood in Wilyabrup, WA, made from a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Almost encyclopedic in its make-up, this really does tick every box for expectation and delivers a plethora of aromas and flavours. Polished, detailed and silky smooth with a complexed nose and a finely layered palate, structured by firm, fine grained tannins and a base of gentle acidity. This is a special, expensive and age worthy wine that needs a chance to stretch out to complete its midpalate. A significant release for Mosswood that is surely going to be a coveted gem in any cellar.

Wine Worth Writing About

The Grape

Bordeaux Blend

Bordeaux Blends are made up of a combination of traditional grapes found in the region of Bordeaux. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are the dominant varieties used in these blends, but you'll also find Petit Verdot, Malbec, Carménère and other supporting grapes. The firm, structured and tannic Left Bank Bordeaux reds are typically Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, whereas the more juicy, lush and approachable Right Bank Bordeaux reds have Merlot as their primary grape. These wines are some of the world's greatest expressions and have been made to last decades!
